Bathroom Sanctuary

There are many games we play as kids. Some of them include an area designated as base, safety, or home.  Ultimately, it is a spot where in the game you are safe. You can rest and plan your next move. I just realized that in my mind I have a "safety" zone in the game of life. My home base where I feel like I can shut out the crazy, regain my thoughts and get back out there is... the bathroom! I just had this realization of course...while I was in the bathroom. I expect when I am in the bathroom with the door closed, that I will not be disturbed. Now, this can be any bathroom. For example, my home bathroom, a restaurant bathroom stall, a lucky port a pottie ;)  I have recently realized that no one else is playing this game. Apparently, NO ONE else knows these rules and/or they just don't respect the rules. I am at work, and every time I go in the bathroom someone is two seconds behind me knocking on the door and trying to get the door open. I have to break my cardinal bathroom rule, and say "Just a minute" in the most peaceful and undisturbed voice possible. The truth is I do not want to talk while I am in the bathroom, and I AM being disturbed. No, I don't talk on the phone, talk between stall walls, or text in the bathroom. I just like to clear my gut and my mind at the same time. My mother, it seems, waits until I am in the bathroom to communicate with me through the door. "Lisa, what do you want on your burger? Your brother called, make sure you call him back." I don't want to think about what is in my next meal while I am getting rid of the last one...you know what I mean? Also, I am not calling my brother while I am in the bathroom so I think I can wait to find out that I need to call him.  These are just tactics from the opponent to get me off base and lose my peace of mind! I am very competitive and I will win this game. I will come out of the bathroom in peace...not in pieces! When I emerge from the bathroom in peace, everyone is a winner!

Laugh a Little!

I have been pouring over Mr. Bean! I realized that as I was watching, my face was contorting to all sorts of positions that I'm sure have been seen in a contortionist's video somewhere. Anyway!!! I've not seen a full episode of a Mr. Bean show or movie before. I couldn't figure out if I was watching out of sheer curiosity, or if I was just amazed at his flexibility. Even as I'm writing this out I can feel my face still under the effects of such brilliant comedy. What makes you laugh? For me it could be from something as obscure as a noodle on my plate that looks like a worm to something like choking on a shamrock shake. Why is it that when we see the funny videos on You Tube of people falling we can't help but to laugh? If you've seen the movie Steel Magnolias you know the scene after the funeral when Sally Field goes ape crazy and get's an offer to punch the daylights out of Shirley MacLaine's "Wheeza" is the funniest scene of all. So, I'm not going to try and figure out any deeper meaning. I'm gonna sit back and just...laugh.
